Dr. Barbara D. Fontenot

Dr. Barbara D. Fontenot, 74, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Dr. Fontenot was a native of Sulphur. She attended McNeese State University and USL (now UL Lafayette), and graduated with the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1966. While in dental school, she was inducted into Gamma Pi Epsilon National Jesuit Honor Society for Women and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society. She practiced general dentistry in Sulphur, after graduating from St. Louis University. She was a member of the American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, and the Dental Society of Calcasieu Parish.

Dr. Fontenot was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her five children, Mr. Bert Paul Fontenot and wife Mrs. Cecile Cutrer Fontenot of Lake Charles, Mr. Russell James Fontenot of DeRidder, Mrs. Teresa Monique Fontenot Marcantel and husband Mr. Daniel Marcantel of Austin, Texas, Deacon Christopher Scott Fontenot and wife Mrs. Polly Fontenot of Sulphur, and Dr. Mark Elliott Fontenot of Dallas, Texas; and 12 grandchildren, Cecilia Claire Fontenot, Christian Hogarty Fontenot, Daniel James Fontenot, Julia Ann Pousson, Evan Johnny Pousson, Nora Evie Fontenot, Lois Elaine Fontenot, Haston Reuben Fontenot, Asher Grady Fontenot, Kadyn Daniel Marcantel, Keegan Samuel Marcantel, and Christopher James Fontenot.

Dr. Fontenot is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. James M. Fontenot, and her parents, Dr. Bert Joseph Daigle and Mrs. Teresa Daigle Sample.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. Reverend Monsignor Vincent A. Sedita will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss, under the direction of Hixon-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday with a scripture service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
