BEVERLY MARIE DUPUY COMEAUX

Beverly Marie Dupuy Comeaux, age 101, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017.

She was a resident of Sulphur since 1935 and of Stonebridge Place since it opened in 2007. Beverly was born on August 3, 1916 and grew up on the Bayou Teche in Adeline, Louisiana.

Following her high school graduation from Franklin High School, she attended Northwestern Normal School where she received her teaching certificate. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from McNeese State College.

In 1935, she was hired by Calcasieu Parish to teach first grade at Frasch Elementary School in Sulphur. After her three children were in school, she returned to teaching in 1957 and taught first grade at Frasch until she retired in 1972. Beverly was the first married teacher in Calcasieu Parish and the first to teach a special needs child in her classroom.

Throughout her life, Beverly made significant contributions to the Sulphur community. She was a founding member and past president of the Brimstone Historical Museum and was actively involved in the Sulphur Garden Club, Civitan, and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, as both a parishioner and member of the Catholic Daughters.

Beverly is survived by her three children, Andre Davidson and her husband Warren of Plano, Texas, Alison Wilson and her husband Mitchell of Berwick, Louisiana, and Chris Comeaux and his wife Debbie of Sulphur; seven grandchildren, Shelley Davidson Strickland (Ray), Jason Davidson (Jennifer), Tyler Wilson (Katie), Raegan Wilson Sanford (Dan), Keaten Wilson Bella (Chad), Ryan Comeaux (Lauren) and David Stewart (Dawn); 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, along with numerous other family members, exceptional caretakers and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Isaac Comeaux, Jr.; parents, L. Andrew and Bola Dupuy; brother, Ray Dupuy; and sister, Fabiola Dupuy Phenis.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 30, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward J. Richard, M.S. will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5-7:30 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Prompt Succor School or St. Jude’s Hospital.
