Tors win season opener

SULPHUR — Senior Tag Stelly scored twice and the Sulphur Tors scored a win in season opener for the first time since 2019 on Friday at Matt Walker Memorial Stadium, beating Pineville 21-13.
Stelly ran for 94 yards on six carries and added six catches for 57 yards. He scored on a 23-yard pass from Gage Trahan in the second quarter and a 23-yard run in the fourth quarter that was set up by a muffed punt by the Rebels.
The Tors got a short field to set up their first touchdown after a snap went over Pineville’s punter, and Jackson Serice scored on a 3-yard run with 10:14 left in the first quarter.
Bruce Jackson led Pineville with 112 yards on 18 carries, including a 51-yard run in the first quarter that cut the Tors’ lead to 7-6.
Sulphur will face Notre Dame (1-0) on the road Thursday. The Pios beat Southside 26-14 in its season opener.
