Tors hold off North Vermilion in season opener

The Sulphur Tors opened the 2022 season Monday with a narrow 6-5 win over North Vermilion at McMurry Park.
North Vermilion cut the Tors’ lead to one run in the top of the seventh after score runs on a pair of bases loaded walks. Carson Cauvin took the mound with one out and struck out the first batter he faced and shortstop Gage Trahan got a force out at second to end the game. David was credited with a save. Vinny Collins earned the win with 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter Jake Brown.
The Tors led 5-0 through four innings, but the Patriots started to chip away at the deficit with three run in the fifth inning backed by a pair of RBI singles by Camden Breaux and John Touchet.
Dillon Bird’s sacrifice fly put the Tors up 1-0 in the first inning.
In the third Brown hit a sac fly and Bird knocked in two runs on a single to increase the Tors’ lead to 4-0.
Brown led the Tors at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two runs and a RBI. Bird went 1 for 2 with three RBI.
The Tors will host the All Star Buick GMC Invitational this weekend at McMurry Park.
