- Laurie Koelzer SPAR Executive Director
Laurie Koelzer is currently serving as Interim Executive Director of Sulphur Parks and Recreation (SPAR).
“I plan to continue SPAR’s mission to serve our district residents and assist other agencies with opportunities for community growth,” she said.
No determination has been made at this time as to whether she will step into the position vacated when Steven Gayfield resigned.
“He was recruited to work with California’s Placid Parks and Open Spaces,” Koelzer said.
Koelzer has been with SPAR for 21 years in the role of administrative manager, working with Norman Farr and Gayfield.
In peak season – spring and summer – SPAR employs as many as 275 to 300 at all properties including the golf course and water park. About 120 employees work full time, year round.
Peak season begins soon. Koelzer said the water park will probably open around the third weekend of May with that weekend being set aside for Sulphur residents only.
