Sulphur City Council held a special meeting Thursday to swiftly navigate the purchase and installation of the Wastewater Facility ultraviolet disinfection system.

“The UV disinfecting system is part of the many processes in our wastewater plants,” Mayor Mike Danahay said, “and this one has become problematic.

“It’s starting to deteriorate. It’s a sole source system, so it’s proprietary. We’ve been informed that by Sept., parts will no longer be available.”

The mayor said when the wastewater treatment processes are refurbished, a project which was planned, but preempted by the problematic UV disinfection system, the new system will not be proprietary.
