Carlyss woman dies after I-10 head-on collision

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 early Thursday morning claimed the life of a 23-year-old Carlyss woman.
Louisiana State Police Troop D was notified of the crash about three miles east of the Toomey/ Starks exit shortly after 12:45 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Kami Angelle Manuel, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of travel on I-10. At the same time, the driver of a 2015 Ram pickup truck was traveling east on I-10. The Chevrolet continued traveling west and struck the Ram pickup truck head-on.
Manuel was properly restrained, but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram pickup truck, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and was transported to area hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
